Host: Good evening and welcome to tonight’s presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump. Our focus tonight is on Economy and Jobs. Each candidate will have two minutes to respond, followed by a two-minute rebuttal. When one candidate is speaking, the other’s microphone will be muted. Let’s begin with our first question. Vice President Harris, what specific plans do you have to address income inequality and boost the middle class?

Harris: Thank you. Our administration has a clear vision for growing the economy from the middle out and bottom up. We’ve already created over 10 million jobs, but there’s more work to do. We’ll raise the minimum wage rate, expand access to affordable education and job training, and ensure equal pay for equal work. We’re also investing in American manufacturing and clean energy jobs to build the economy of the future. Unlike my opponent, who only looks out for his wealthy friends, we’re focused on delivering real results for hardworking Americans.

Host: Thank you, Vice President. Mr. Trump, your response?

Trump: Look, folks, it’s a total disaster. Sleepy Joe and Kamala have wrecked our beautiful economy. Inflation is through the roof, gas prices are killing people. They talk about jobs? People can’t afford to put food on the table or gas in their cars. It’s a disgrace. When I was President, we had the greatest economy in the history of our country. African American and Hispanic unemployment was the lowest ever recorded. We had jobs coming out of our ears. And let me tell you, Kamala doesn’t have a clue. She’s never created a job in her life. All she knows is how to lock up young Black men for smoking a little weed. Isn’t that right, Kamala?

Host: Vice President Harris, you have two minutes to rebut.

Harris: Mr. Trump, your disrespect and lies are exactly why the American people rejected you in 2020. Let’s set the record straight. Our administration inherited an economy in crisis due to your mishandling of the pandemic. Since then, we’ve overseen the strongest job creation in modern history. As for my record, I’m proud of my work as a prosecutor keeping communities safe, and I’m even prouder of our work reforming the criminal justice system.

But let’s talk about your record, Donald. You inherited a growing economy and managed to crash it. Your tax cuts for the wealthy exploded the deficit, and your trade wars hurt American farmers and consumers. And let’s not forget the 22 million jobs lost under your watch during the pandemic.

Speaking of records, the American people deserve to know about the 91 felony charges you’re currently facing. From election interference to mishandling classified documents, your legal troubles raise serious questions about your fitness for office. How can you lead the economy when you might be headed to prison?

Trump: (interrupting) Witch hunt! It’s all a witch hunt!

Host: Mr. Trump, please allow the Vice President to finish. Your microphone will be muted until it’s your turn.

Harris: The American people see through your bluster and empty promises. They want a leader who respects the rule of law and puts their interests first, not someone facing multiple criminal indictments.

Host: Mr. Trump, your rebuttal?

Trump: Oh, Kamala. You know, people say you’re not ready for prime time, and they’re right. You can’t even get your own party to like you. Your poll numbers are lower than Sleepy Joe’s energy levels, and that’s saying something. You talk about inheriting a crisis? Give me a break. We gave you Operation Warp Speed, the greatest medical miracle in history. But you and Joe were too busy telling people not to trust the Trump vaccine. And now you want to take credit? That’s rich, almost as rich as Hunter Biden’s Chinese friends.

And let me tell you something about these phony charges. It’s all a political witch hunt. The deep state is terrified of me because they know I’ll drain the swamp. These charges are a joke, and the American people know it. They’re not fooled by your lies and your corrupt justice system.

Host: Let’s move on to our next question. Mr. Trump, how do you plan to bring manufacturing jobs back to America?

Trump: It’s very simple. We’re going to make it impossible for companies to leave. We’ll cut taxes, slash regulations, and impose tariffs on countries that cheat. China, Mexico, even Canada – they’re all taking advantage of us. We’ll renegotiate every bad deal and put America First. And let me tell you, I know how to make deals. Unlike Kamala, who couldn’t even make a deal with her own party to pass that socialist spending bill. What a joke.

And you know what else? I have a very high IQ. Probably one of the highest. People always ask me about it. And let me tell you, it takes a high IQ to fix the mess that Sleepy Joe and Kamala have created. I went to Wharton, the best business school. Where’d you go, Kamala? Some state school in California?

Host: Vice President Harris, your response?

Harris: Mr. Trump, your obsession with IQ is both outdated and offensive. Intelligence isn’t measured by a single number, and it certainly isn’t measured by how loudly you brag about yourself. But since you brought it up, let’s talk about education and qualifications.

I graduated from Howard University, one of the most prestigious historically Black colleges in the nation, and earned my law degree from the University of California. I’ve served as District Attorney of San Francisco, Attorney General of California, and now as Vice President of the United States. My diverse background and experiences reflect the America I’m fighting for – one of opportunity for all, not just the privileged few.

As for your so-called plan, it’s nothing but empty slogans and failed policies. We’ve already brought manufacturing jobs back to America at a historic rate. We’ve passed the CHIPS Act to boost semiconductor production and the Inflation Reduction Act to create clean energy manufacturing jobs. We’re rebuilding our infrastructure and investing in the industries of the future. And we’re doing it without adding to the deficit, unlike the Trump tax cuts that exploded our national debt.

Trump: Oh, please. Howard University? Never heard of it. Probably not even in the top 100. You know, I took an IQ test, and the doctors were very surprised. They said, “We’ve never seen results like this before.” But I’m not surprised. I’ve always been good with numbers, very good with numbers.

And let’s talk about your background, Kamala. I’m not even sure you know what you are. One day you’re Indian, the next day you’re Black. Which is it? You know, her own father said they’re descended from slave owners in Jamaica. Can you believe it? So she’s out there talking about racial justice, but her family owned slaves! It’s a disgrace.

Harris: Mr. Trump, your racist and sexist comments are beneath the dignity of this office. Let me be clear: I am a proud Black woman. I am also proud of my Indian heritage. Like millions of Americans, I have a diverse background that reflects the beautiful complexity of this nation.

But since you brought it up, let’s talk about family history. My ancestors were enslaved people who fought for freedom. Your ancestors ran draft-dodging schemes and discriminated against Black renters. So I don’t think you’re in any position to lecture anyone about their family history.

The American people deserve better than your failed leadership and divisive rhetoric. They want a leader who will unite us, not divide us. Who will lift up all Americans, not just the wealthy few. That’s what our economic plan does, and that’s why we’ll win in November.

Host: Let’s move on to our final question. Vice President Harris, how do you plan to address the concerns of workers who fear losing their jobs to automation and AI?

Harris: This is a critical issue that requires a forward-thinking approach. Our administration is investing in workforce development and retraining programs to ensure American workers are prepared for the jobs of the future. We’re also investing in STEM education and partnering with the private sector to create apprenticeship programs. At the same time, we’re working to ensure that as we transition to new technologies, we’re creating good-paying union jobs in emerging industries like clean energy and advanced manufacturing.

Host: Mr. Trump, your thoughts on addressing job displacement due to automation and AI?

Trump: Look, I know more about technology than anybody. I was on the cover of Time Magazine for my expertise in technology. AI, artificial intelligence, it’s a beautiful thing, but we have to be careful. China is trying to dominate AI, and Sleepy Joe and Kamala are letting them do it. It’s a disgrace.

We’re going to be smart about AI. We’ll create incentives for companies to keep jobs here, and we’ll slap tariffs on countries that try to undercut us. And let me tell you, we need to be very careful about who we let into our country to work on this stuff. We can’t let other countries steal our technology. That’s why we need strong borders and extreme vetting.

Harris: Mr. Trump, once again, you’re all talk and no substance. Our administration has a concrete plan to address these challenges, while all you offer is fearmongering and empty promises. Your understanding of AI and its implications for the workforce is shockingly simplistic.

Trump: Simplistic? I don’t think so. I have a very good brain, remember? I understand this stuff better than the so-called experts. You know, people are always surprised at how well I understand technology. They say, “Donald, how do you know so much about this?” It’s because I have a very high IQ, folks. Much higher than Kamala’s, I can tell you that.

Harris: Mr. Trump, your fixation on IQ is not only misguided but dangerous. Intelligence is multifaceted and can’t be reduced to a single number. What matters is how we use our abilities to solve real problems and improve people’s lives. Our administration is focused on creating opportunities for all Americans, regardless of their background or test scores.

Trump: Oh, please. You wouldn’t know a good opportunity if it slapped you in the face, Kamala. Your whole career is built on identity politics and locking up young Black men. You’re a fraud, and the American people know it. You couldn’t even win a primary in your own state. You dropped out before Iowa. And now you want to lecture me about results? Give me a break.

Harris: Mr. Trump, your desperate attempts to distract from your failed policies and legal troubles are both offensive and pathetic. The American people rejected your bigotry in 2020, and they’ll do it again. They want a leader who understands the complex challenges we face and has real solutions, not someone who brags about IQ tests, spews divisive rhetoric, and faces multiple criminal indictments.

Host: And with that, we’ve come to the end of this topic.  Thank you !
